Late Period- Deja Vu
I've been waiting for my period this month and it is now late. I get it usually anywhere in a 30-35 day cycle. Today is the 37th day and no period. For the past week I've had swollen, larger breasts, sore nipples a couple days ago, nauseous and light cramping. I usually get all those with PMS except the nipples sore and usually my swollen breasts are sore, but they aren't sore currently. I also keep getting a white discharge that I kept thinking is my period but isn't. I took a pregnancy test (ept) last night around 11:30pm (day 36) and it came up negative. I had taken a dose of B-12 vitamins a couple hours before and I could see they flushed in my urine...could that ruin the test?

I really don't know what to think and I'm panicking because I've never gone past 35 days without a period and these symptoms with no bleeding is scaring me to no end. Could this be normal and my period will come? I guess the no period, weird discharge and sore nipples/cramping is freaking me out. I want to be excited with the negative test but I'm still so worried.

Any friendly advice or encouragement for a sad and worried girl :(

Also: My bf and I had sex 3 times this past month (all with condoms, but not on BC). One broke around the time I could have ovulated but he had no finished, we stopped instantly and he had not ejaculated for at least 12 hours before.

I had a termination 2 1/2 years ago and i CANNOT deal with this again, I just can't. I just want my cycle to start so bad. But I've never been late.

It is best to test with your first morning urine.

Even if its been a couple days now since I've been late. I was going to retest tonight when I meet up with my bf. I don't want to do it in the morning when I'm at my house alone :(

Morning is when it is most accurate, however. You could however collect first morning urine and save it for night time.

hi there - just fyi, it would be preferable if you could not use pregnancy-related icons on this community. Some members are sensitive and find it triggering.

I do apologize. It is my default and don't usually pay attention.

it's no problem, I figured it was just your default, and I doubt anyone was upset.

It still hasn't come. I'm always regular so I'm freaked out. Mid cycle bf didnt call for a few days so I sat up a few nights crying and freaking out and worrying until I made myself sick. Maybe this was finally enough to mess a regular cycle? Otherwise idk because I've been stressed with exams etc before but NEVER been late like this :(

B12 wouldn't affect your test. It doesn't erase the hcg in your blood.

If your period is a week late your test would be very accurate. Furthermore, you haven't had any significantly unsafe sex.

It's very unlikely that you are pregnant.

it's quite common for ovulation to be late once in awhile, which makes your period late. That is most likely what is going on with you.

You might consider starting to chart your cycles; once you do that, you can be pretty certain of where you are in your cycles at any given time, which can help cut the worrying down.

Yeah I've been keeping track which is why I'm worried. Athough I DONT know when I'm ovulating so I guess that's why I'm worried because I dont know.

I'm just worried because when I did get pregnant almost 3 years ago it was from...pre-cum! :(

One more thing- my PMS symptoms I always get (swelled boobs, sore boobs) started later than usual (arouond when my period would come) and its making me nervous because I've heard you usually get preg symptoms around your missed period. QUESTION: If I did ovulate late, then my usual pms would then be pushed correct?
electric misfit love machineeyelid on May 11th, 2011 02:35 am (UTC)
yes. you get PMS symptoms due to progesterone, occurring after ovulation.

also, you can easily imagine or inflate symptoms when you think you might be pregnant.

Have you ever heard of vitamin c or anything used to induce a period? I just really want to get it and not deal with this torture. I'm now 5-7 days late depending on when I should have gotten it and my breasts are killing me. I really don't want to take another pregnancy test just yet because I don't have the head for it today or tomorrow. I figure by Friday or Saturday because it would give me some pretty fair results.

So vitamin c or anythign really work or a myth?
electric misfit love machineeyelid on May 11th, 2011 06:10 pm (UTC)
Vit C is a fabled home abortion remedy. But there's little to no scientific evidence that it actually works. (I found one study on it, but it was in Russian so I couldn't verify the validity).

There's also no scientific evidence (studies etc) that vit C will make your period come faster, and I haven't any idea of why it might (from a physiological perspective.) You'll get your period when the progesterone being emitted from your corpus luteum drops; I don't know of any reason why vit C would speed that up.

Vit C is unlikely to hurt you though unless you have bad kidneys. If you want to try it, here's Sister Zeus's page on it. People often also use parsley tea as an emmenagogue. Again, no evidence it works, but it's not going to hurt you.

Alright, thank you for your time. I appreciate it. I guess I just have to wait a couple days and then if it doesn't come deal with it from there. Ahhh this is torture and so freaking me out.

Is creamy white discharge and cramping normal a week or so before a period? That's what's scaring me and the really swollen and sore boobs!!. And even if I've always had regular cycles( for 10 years now)--could I have a freak late one?
hope1517 on May 11th, 2011 07:33 pm (UTC)
Last question: And if i was stressed enough to push ovulation back. Could it really be 1-2 weeks pushed back or wouldn't it just be a couple days or so?
electric misfit love machineeyelid on May 11th, 2011 07:34 pm (UTC)
It could easily be a week or two, or even longer. It also doesn't have to be a reaction to stress, though things like travel do tend to throw one's cycle off.
electric misfit love machineeyelid on May 11th, 2011 07:33 pm (UTC)
Is creamy white discharge and cramping normal a week or so before a period?

It's neither normal nor abnormal. It depends on the woman, and the cycle. It doesn't particularly indicate pregnancy. sore breasts are common in the luteal phase with or without pregnancy.

And even if I've always had regular cycles( for 10 years now)--could I have a freak late one?

yes. It's completely normal to have a delayed ovulation once in awhile.
hope1517 on May 11th, 2011 11:41 pm (UTC)
Thanks. Hopefully it comes soon :( It's like 5-6 days late. This has never happened. And I keep getting cramps and get excited but then they go away and are only light ughhh

Last thing I promise. Hearing advice from calms me a bit. The only sex in question was around ovulation (ithink, unless it was really late). We used a condom but in the last minute of intercourse it was broken. He NEVER finished and he hadn't ejaculated since that early morning and sex was around 1am. Should I be super worried?

All these cramps, sharp pains and late period is making me so upset!!
electric misfit love machineeyelid on May 11th, 2011 02:34 am (UTC)
Charting your cycle signals allows you to identify your ovulation so you know whether you're late or just had a late ovulation.
hope1517 on May 12th, 2011 03:21 pm (UTC)
Ok thanks for all your opinions and help. But I woke up today with still no AF and my breasts MORE sore than they have EVER been. Still cramping like 8 days later and I'm just sitting here crying because I no longer have any faith AF is coming and pregnancy is seeming more like it. I just cannot believe that the only few sex acts we had could have gotten me pregnant. I'm in complete shock. I guess I'll take a test today or tomorrow when I'm with my bf :(
electric misfit love machineeyelid on May 12th, 2011 04:05 pm (UTC)
I can't promise you're not pregnant, and there's no way for me (or anyone else) to know at this point. Since it is stressing you out, you might want to go to the doctor and ask for a beta blood test.
hope1517 on May 13th, 2011 03:36 am (UTC)
Now I took two tonight after work with my friend. They both weren't super dark like the last, but they were still visible negative BUT on both (one a bit darker than the other) where the positive vertical line would be there was a SUPER SUPER thin line and SUPER faint and OFF CENTERED. So I'm freaking, but then I checked my one from Saturday and now that one has it too! But didn't before. And as time goes, the two other ones that line is getting darker. Are they evaporation lines?

But these two the faint super thin line happened within the first like 5 minutes unlike the blue line on the saturday one (took over a day to appear)

Disregard any "positive" results that show up late - anything after more than ~10 minutes, or whatever the instructions say on the test. Pregnancy tests are designed for rapid results and anything that shows up later is NOT an accurate result. Your old tests are causing you nothing but distress. Throw them out and only rely on new tests.

Any faint line that has COLOR is what distinguishes it from an evaporation line.

I agree with eyelid, it sounds like you could benefit from going to the doctor at this point and asking for them to perform a test so you don't have to worry about reading the result.

Thank you. I have an appointment Monday for an ultra sound because they've been worried about me for a couple months with sharp pains I get also, so they're doing that as well. And I know that will give me 110% percent results if I'm pregnant or not. I'm so scared, I really don't want to be judged. I'm in shock, because while theres still a chance/hope I'm not I just have never had a late period like this. And I woke up and my boobs are so HEAVY, swollen, and so painful. I get that with pms too, but it seems worse. Idk if my heads making it worse and I'm just having late pms/period.

Ughh tried to be safe :( ' I just don't grasp how I could have gotten pregnant if I really am

Late-appearing, light lines are usually evap lines. For more information on this, check out PeeOnAStick.com.

If you were really a couple of weeks late due to pregnancy your lines would almost certainly be very very dark and appear instantly by now.

Vit C really works!!!

My period this month was late and my situation was similar (had sex and he used a condom but i'm not on birth control). I took 6000mg of Vit C yesterday (spread over the day) and only 2000mg today (between 11am - 2pm) and I came on my period a few hours ago.
